Timeline

Here is an outline of the process and a rough timeline.

-Homestudy with an approved adoption practitioner (2-4 months)
-Submit homestudy report to the Ministry of Children and Youth Services for approval (6-8 weeks)
-Collect documents for dossier to be sent to Ethiopia (done simultaneously with homestudy)
-Adoption Agency gets documents and prepares to send dossier (1 month)
-Documents are processed in Ethiopia (?)
-Wait for the referral of a child. We requested either sex up to the age of 12 months at the time of referral (3-6 months)
-Wait for a court date which is when we become the official parents(2-3 months)
-Wait for new birth certificate, passport and immigration papers (6-8 months). Boo Hisss to the Canadian Government on this one and understaffing that holds the Visa/citizenship process up. People adopting from the USA,UK, Australia, Ireland, Finland, Spain only have a 1-4 weeks wait.

Total time (14-24 months)
