City and Colour

Yahh!...Matty managed to pick up tickets for City and Colour in Toronto next week. He tried to get them a few weeks ago but they were sold out (pooey) but he managed to snag two from a guy who couldn't go (yahh). I love this song....sometimes the waiting and uncertainty of this adoption process makes me feel like I have a sleeping sickness too.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there. Click on the picture below to learn about how my mom got on the news (ok, you got me... it is a video you can make on that website - fun to send to your mom). And since we fully expected to have a referral by this mother's day and are still waiting, I was bad this week and made an impulse purchase to treat myself- an ice cream maker. I have to laugh at myself because this is so NOT what I need around the house. Matthew asked me to wait a couple of days before taking it out of the box to see if I changed my mind. From the pistachio ice cream pictures below I think you can tell what decision I made. haha (-:

Black Berry, Sweet Juice

I really like Lawrence Hill as an author and think he is quite a bright guy, so when I heard he had a book on what he thinks it means to be black or white in Canadian society I couldn't help but give it a read. This was a good book! It doesn’t speak specifically to the adoption experience, but it still has a lot of valuable reflection on racism in Canada. It is mostly his own personal perspective but he does include some other perspectives gained from interviews with friends, family and other Canadians.

Still Here

I have been a bit slow with blog posting I must admit. Just feeling down about the waiting and needing some time away I guess.

So here is what I have been up to:

-drowning my sorrows with a little sugar. I have discovered food blogs and got this idea for brownies from this one (here). Two other neat ones are arabic bites and tastes like home (Guyanese cooking). I have the day off today so I think I will see if there is a recipe from one of those sites I can try.

Has everyone heard of Nick Drake before?? Great mellow music, Matthew introduced me to it. Here are two of his songs.

Melissa Fay Greene

Here is a link to a recent question and answer with Melissa Fay Greene on international adoption. I think with all the negative news out there it is refreshing to see her perspective.
